Career Highlights:

1996 Olympian; 1996 Olympic Trials champion; 1994 U.S. and NCAA champ...bronze medalist at 1995 Pan Am Games; 3rd at 2000 Olympic Trials.

As a high school junior, Todd Riech won the 100m, 200m, 400m and javelin at the 1988 Montana State Championships. As his school's only entrant, Riech's 24 points at that event won the team title by one point which led to a "Faces In the Crowd" article in Sports Illustrated.

He repeated his wins at the state meet his senior year, in addition to winning the state 300m hurdles crown...was recruited to Fresno State as a decathlete, but decided to focus on the javelin, his best event. A member of the Native American Sports Council (Flathead & Kootenai Tribe), he was sponsored by Billy Mills’, Running Strong, Nike and Powerade. 

After retiring as a javelin thrower after his 2000 track season, he became a javelin coach.  He currently works as an assistant coach at Long Beach State.  He also works as a personal trainer and offers private coaching in the javelin and sports conditioning for all other sports as well.

  • 2000: 3rd at Olympic Trials (76.94/252-1) but did not have Olympic "A" qualifier, so did not compete in Sydney ...6th at Mt.       SAC...5th in U.S. vs. GBR dual meet...ranked 3rd in U.S. by Track & Field News...best of 259-4 in Glasgow .
